Examples of God’s grace in the Bible abound. These are biblical stories of redemption where God’s sufficient grace is evident even in the lives of those who deviated from His righteous path.
Biblical Meaning of Grace
Grace is the undeserved, unmerited favor that God bestows upon us. And Jesus Christ is the personification of God’s grace –because it is only through His Son’s death and resurrection that His grace and blessings became available to us all.
Examples of God’s Grace in the Bible
1. God Gave Abraham And Sarah a Son
In the Bible, Sarah grew restless waiting on God to deliver on His promise. As a result of her impatience, Sarah took the matter into her own hands by convincing Abraham to give her a son through her servant Hagar– a terrible mistake which stirred up considerable troubles for them as a consequence.
Nonetheless, in the end, God’s grace still endured. He still gave them the child they had longed for all their lives. Sarah got pregnant and bore a son, named Isaac.
2. God Showed His Abiding Grace Towards David
We are fallible human beings predisposed to committing mistakes, yet, time and again, God’s compassionate grace prevails –for as long as we ask in humility and show genuine repentance by turning our back on sin.
David sinned greatly, yet despite his offenses, God not only forgave his sins (mercy), He also gave him a new son (grace-undeserved gift) after losing his first born with Bathsheba. This is an example of God’s abiding grace, a blessing undeserved but was given to David nonetheless.
David was often described as a man after God’s own heart but he was never perfect. In fact, he committed sins many may consider beyond redemption.
Nevertheless, God was merciful enough to forgive him but not without imposing consequences for his actions. As a Christian, even punishment can be considered a blessing– because God’s discipline leads us in the path of righteousness.
Let us be reminded that God disciplines those He loves most.
3. Paul Story of Redemption Is One of Examples of God’s Grace in the Bible
Never let our dark past doubt our worthiness to serve God. When self-doubt starts to creep in, be reminded that the Lord often uses imperfect people to accomplish His plans.
No one can embody such a statement better than the apostle Paul. The apostle led the arrest and imprisonment of Jesus’ followers. He was even in cahoots with those responsible for the death of St. Stephen. Nevertheless, the Lord still preferred to use him to bring the good news to the Gentiles.
God, however, never spared Paul from the consequences of his actions. Because as much as God is a God of love and mercy, He is also a God of justice who uses corrective measures and discipline to restore a sinner to righteousness.
Philippians 3:8
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake, I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ”
Regardless of our past, God can still use us mightily for His glory if we would serve Him with an open heart. Do not let your past doubt your worthiness to serve God.
God’s Grace Is Sufficient
2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Life in the Spirit is different from that of the flesh. It is when we are at our weakest that we become strong in the Lord—because, as humans, we naturally rely on God whenever we are encumbered by life’s adverse trials.
It is precisely when our capacities as humans are constrained amidst agonizing hardships that the fruits of the Spirit flourish within us.
The fruits of the Holy Spirit Are a Testament to God’s Abounding Grace
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we can experience His peace and the joy that comes from being one with God.
What are the fruits of the Spirit?
- Love
- Joy
- Peace
- Patience
- Kindness
- Generosity
- Faithfulness
- Self-Control
When we live in the light of God’s truth, these are gifts from God that we can have access to– our most cherished blessings that surpass any precious gems for their worth.
